Capitol Caterers manages over 100 tailored catering contracts across the education, healthcare, retirement, and commercial sectors in South Africa and Eswatini. Our speciality lies in creating nutritious, high-quality meals that cater to diverse dietary needs, tastes, and group sizes.

At the helm is CEO Merrill King, supported by COO Laura Morton and Managing Director Russell Nzimande. Together, their collaborative expertise spans award-winning culinary excellence and deep industry knowledge in operations and contract catering.

Empowering People – The Capitol Workers Trust

In 2002, founder Giles King launched the Capitol Workers Trust, transferring 21% of company ownership to a Trust which benefits long-serving employees. Today, that share has grown to 49%, allowing beneficiaries to earn dividends and share directly in the company’s success.

With a team of more than 1,400 employees, our success is built on loyalty and long service. Many of our staff have been with us for over 15 years, a testament to our people-first philosophy.

Commitment To Quality

Every Capitol Caterers contract operates under Quality Management Systems (QMS) and our own CHESS (Capitol Health, Environment & Safety Standards) programme. Compliance with ISO 9001, HACCP, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act is overseen by a dedicated OHS officer, who conducts regular audits and training.

Dietetics And Nutrition

Our Dietetics Department plays a vital role in client wellness by offering menu planning, allergy guidance, and nutrition education. Our dietitians also lead awareness programmes for all our clients on healthy eating and balanced lifestyles.

Training And Development

The Midlands Hospitality Academy (MHA), accredited by QCTO, Highfield and CATHSSETA, is our training hub. It provides learnerships, in-house and online training, and skills development opportunities for both employees and external candidates. Pre-planned on the job skills training and core management training is conducted by our dedicated training department at all our contracts.

We are proud supporters of disability inclusion, working with ICAN (PMI Group), the Department of Social Development, and Mental Health programmes to integrate disabled individuals into the workforce.

Sustainability And The Environment

Capitol Caterers is committed to lowering its carbon footprint through strict recycling policies and partnerships with entrepreneurial recyclers. We have partnered with Earth Probiotic at a number of our contracts and make use of sustainable and effective waste management solutions.
