MISSION

  • Enabling the development of an aerotropolis by providing leading-edge spatial planning and infrastructure.

  • Attracting and sustaining investment through the creation and operation of a special economic zone and related commercial zones.

  • Growing business and trade through enhanced logistics and new regional and international air services connectivity.

GROW BEYOND POTENTIAL

Dube TradePort was established in 2003 by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government to support economic growth, job creation, and industrialisation in the region.

Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone

The Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone was established as a catalyst for economic development, leveraging its unique location with over 3,000 hectares of greenfield developable land, centred around King Shaka International Airport. Its proximity to Durban and Richards Bay seaports, along with connectivity via an extensive rail and road network in Durban, Dube TradePort supports the development of several integrated infrastructure projects and business operations that collectively create a world-class industrial and commercial precinct.

Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone operates several businesses, namely:

Dube City: Which serves as the primary business and commercial hub within the precinct, housing offices and facilities for local and international businesses while providing convenient access to airport services.

Dube AgriZone: Functions as Africa’s first integrated perishables supply chain, supporting agriculture and agro-processing through greenhouses, packhouses, and distribution centres. It specialises in horticulture, aquaculture, floriculture, and advanced plant tissue culture through Dube AgriLab.

Dube iConnect: Provides voice and data services within the precinct, as well as cloud computing solutions, such

as hosted services, disaster recovery and backup.

Dube TradeZone: A light industrial manufacturing, assembly, and logistics precinct that offers an enabling environment for:

  • Aerospace and aviation-linked manufacturing and related services;

  • Electronics manufacturing and assembly;

  • Medical and pharmaceutical production and distribution;

  • Clothing and textiles;

  • Automotive component manufacturing.

Dube Cargo Terminal: The most secure cargo terminal in Africa, directly linked to King Shaka International Airport and Dube TradeZone. Through Dube AiRoad, it also operates a fleet of dry and refrigerated trucks and commercial vehicles to bridge the last mile between road and air freight.

King Shaka International Airport, owned and operated by Airports Company South Africa, has the longest sea-level runway (3.7 km) in South Africa, capable of accommodating the latest generation of wide-bodied aircraft.

Durban Aerotropolis: The most connected city in Africa

Dube TradePort is implementing the development of the Durban Aerotropolis, which is emerging around King Shaka International Airport.

An aerotropolis is an urban form where the airport is positioned at the centre of a developing city, seamlessly connecting people with amenities and opportunities, along with goods and the global marketplace.
