Airports Company South Africa Announces CEO Transition

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has announced that the tenure of Ms Mpumi Mpofu as Chief Executive Officer will come to an end following the completion of her contract, marking the conclusion of an important chapter in the organisation’s leadership journey.

The Board of Directors has appointed Mr Charles Shilowa as Acting Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 July 2026. His appointment forms part of a structured transition process aimed at ensuring continuity, stability, and sustained operational excellence across all ACSA-managed airports.

Mr Irvin Phenyane, Chairperson of the ACSA Board, confirmed that the Board and CEO have agreed on a carefully managed transition process guided by clear terms of reference and mutual cooperation. He noted that the transition has been designed to safeguard organisational momentum while maintaining ACSA’s strategic priorities and service delivery commitments.

Ms Mpofu will continue serving in her role until the conclusion of her contract and will work closely with the Acting CEO, the Board, and the executive leadership team to ensure a seamless handover. The transition period will focus on maintaining operational stability, strengthening governance processes, and ensuring uninterrupted delivery of services across the company’s national airport network.

During her tenure, Ms Mpofu played a significant role in steering ACSA through a dynamic operating environment for the aviation sector, with a continued focus on operational resilience, infrastructure development, stakeholder engagement, and customer experience enhancement. Her leadership contributed to the organisation’s ongoing efforts to position South Africa’s airports as globally competitive gateways that support tourism, trade, and economic growth.

The Board expressed its appreciation for Ms Mpofu’s contribution and leadership during her time at ACSA and acknowledged her commitment to the organisation’s long-term sustainability and strategic objectives.

The appointment of Mr Shilowa as Acting CEO is expected to provide continuity while the organisation advances its strategic and operational priorities. Working alongside the executive team and Board, he will oversee ongoing programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening airport operations, improving efficiencies, and supporting the future growth of the aviation sector in South Africa.

ACSA also thanked employees, aviation partners, government stakeholders, customers, and the broader public for their continued commitment and support during this transition period.

As the organisation enters this new phase, ACSA remains committed to delivering world-class airport infrastructure and services, while continuing to play a vital role in enabling connectivity, economic development, and regional integration across South Africa and the African continent.
