More Than a Moment: Building a Legacy of Women in Business
By Chelsea Morford
Three photoshoot and interview days. Dozens of conversations, countless photographs and an ever-growing network of connections.
While the KZN Top Business Women 2026 journey will culminate in a special evening on 19 November, the true value of this initiative extends far beyond a single event.
Hosted at the Coastlands Skye Hotel in Umhlanga, the first three days have brought together women from an extraordinary range of industries and professional backgrounds. From fashion, healthcare and property to construction, sport, media, hospitality, law, logistics, finance and sustainability, the diversity of the 2026 cohort reflects the breadth of talent shaping KwaZulu-Natal’s business landscape.
But this is not simply about bringing 40 accomplished women into the same room. It is about creating an environment where connections can continue long after the photographs have been taken, the interviews published and the November celebration has ended.
At the heart of KZN Top Business Women is the power of connection. When women with different experiences, expertise and perspectives meet, ideas are exchanged, experiences are shared, introductions are made and support networks grow.
The first three days have already demonstrated this beautifully. Between professional portraits and interviews, conversations have developed naturally over coffee, around tables and in the moments between sessions. Women from different industries have discovered shared experiences, exchanged advice and found common ground.
Yet the significance of the programme lies not only in what each woman has already achieved, but in what can happen when those achievements become part of a larger collective.
That vision is shared by the organisations supporting the initiative.
One of this year’s sponsors is Women of Africa Group, founded and owned by Pria Hassan, herself a 2014 KZN Top Business Woman. Her involvement brings a meaningful sense of continuity to the programme: someone once recognised through this platform is now helping create opportunities for the women being celebrated today.
Another sponsor, Morar Incorporated, led by CEO Jennifer Reddy, is supporting an initiative centred on professional achievement, connection and continued growth.
Their involvement reflects an important principle: creating opportunities for women in business grows when businesses, leaders and individuals invest in one another and create spaces where meaningful relationships can develop.
This is also why the KZN Top Business Women coffee-table book is more than a collection of portraits.
It will provide a lasting record of 40 women, their careers, businesses, experiences and achievements at this point in their journeys. Behind every photograph, however, is a story – and behind every story is the potential for another connection, conversation or opportunity.
There is something particularly powerful about seeing women who may never otherwise have crossed paths sit together, share experiences and engage beyond the boundaries of their individual industries. The atmosphere has been filled with good food, great energy, laughter, curiosity and genuine enthusiasm. More importantly, there has been a willingness to support one another.
That willingness is something worth carrying forward.
A lifetime achievement is not necessarily measured by one award, one title or one defining moment. Sometimes, it is measured by the people we meet, the relationships we build, the doors we help open and the impact we continue to have on others.
KZN Top Business Women 2026 seeks to create that kind of lasting impact.
The hope is that the women featured this year will leave with more than photographs, a profile in a coffee-table book or memories of an evening in November. They will leave with new relationships and a wider network of women who understand the journey of building, leading and growing in business.
A conversation at Coastlands Skye could become a collaboration. An introduction could become a business opportunity. A shared experience could become mentorship. A new friendship could become a source of support during a challenging chapter.
That is the real potential of bringing people together.
With three photoshoot and interview days complete, there are still more women to meet and more stories to capture before the full cohort comes together on 19 November 2026.
But already, something meaningful has been created.
The legacy of this programme has the potential to extend far beyond the 40 individual stories – into the businesses these women lead, the people they employ, the communities they serve and the women they will encourage along the way.
There is something genuinely beautiful about being part of an initiative that does more than aspire to help women in business grow, connect and further their impact. It creates the space, relationships and community in which that growth can happen.
And perhaps that is the greatest achievement of all: not simply celebrating where these women are today, but helping create a network that continues to support where they are going tomorrow.
The event may have a date. The photographs may have a publication. But the connections have the potential to last a lifetime.
