A Snapshot of Our Recent Work
We love what we do and one of the reasons why is because we have such diversity in our work, from capturing factories and machinery to conferences to luxury golf estates to safety equipment to annual awards ceremonies. They all keep us inspired and all provide particular challenges that we have to adapt to. Here is some of the work that we have encountered over the last month or two.
Elev8 Tour
Element8 went on a tour around South Africa showcasing their latest technology and sharing success stories of some of their clients. Their automation technology that is used in various manufacturing industries is remarkable and can help improve on production; reduce stopages and breakdowns as well as upscale production. This was the first time that it has been held in Durban and it was impressive to see so many guests attending. We covered the Durban leg with photography as well as filming the case studies and awards. The brief was quite simple with just capturing guests networking; the speakers on stage; awards; and general atmosphere at the event including as much branding as possible.
Toyota Boshoku
We really enjoy working at Toyota Boshoku as the staff are so friendly and hospitable which makes it easy to just get on with the job and get it done. This time we had to photograph their new Engel Injection Moulding Machines that had just been installed and are almost ready to go online and start with production. I thoroughly enjoy photographing factories and machinery as they pose a challenge to make look good and nothing beats a good challenge. The hardest part was just arriving with all the correct PPE the rest was easy.
Market Systems Symposium
The Market Systems Symposium held at the Durban ICC brought together thinkers and doers from around the world to talk about how to build stronger, fairer economies. We were there to photograph and film the conversations, the energy, and those small, spontaneous moments that make big events feel personal. This 3 day event was so well organised and the creative use of one hall was imaginative and actually made each day go by so quickly.
KZN Master Builders Annual Awards
Next came the KZN Master Builders Annual Awards, celebrating the people who quite literally build our communities. This has got to be one of the most thought out events each year as every possible detail is thought of and they pride themselves in a smooth running event. By the end of the evening you cannot feel proud of living in KZN and feeling positive about the future as you get to see all the massive projects that are taking place.
Zimbali Lakes
At Zimbali Lakes, our brief this time was to film and photograph the golf course; housing developments; activities and general setups for their upcoming summer promotions. This golf course is spectacular and it is such a treat to work there and help market this jewel on the KZN north coast.
Talarify in Cape Town
Down in Cape Town at the beautiful UCT, we joined Talarify, a team doing amazing work in tech education for the inaugural Research Software Symposium. We have been working with Anelda, who runs Talarify, for a number of years when she was working for another company so even though it was an extra cost to have our team travel to Cape Town, she insisted on using us. That was a huge honour and we made sure that we lived up to our promises and exceeded her expectations. We documented workshops and learning sessions that were all about empowerment through digital skills. The genuine enthusiasm of everyone involved made for honest, uplifting storytelling.
Tropic Plastics
The shoot for Tropic Plastics was through a colleague and I jumped at the opportunity as I love photographing factories. They may be hot, a little dirty and unpolished in certain areas but that just poses more of a challenge and a deep desire to turn all of that into beautiful images that can be used for marketing. Of course you also learn about all kinds of processes and how things are actually made so that is always an added bonus. This factory was no different and full of exciting and wondrous machines that I found myself staring at for ages trying to figure out how they work. Always a treat to photograph a factory.
South African Agricultural Awards
The South African Agricultural Awards were a celebration of hard work and growth — quite literally. Farmers, producers, and agri-leaders from across the country came together to honour dedication and innovation in the sector. Our coverage focused on the pride, the grit, and the sense of shared purpose that connects everyone in agriculture. What is so inspiring about these awards is that it is not about the biggest farmer in the country but it includes small scale farming and recognises the work of everyone. They all contribute to our economy and our food security.
