Theolan Govender, regional manager for Afrisam in KwaZulu-Natal, hails from Isipingo, south of Durban. After matriculating from Isipingo Secondary School in 1998, he pursued a national diploma at the Durban University of Technology. This was followed by in-service training at South African Breweries, which honed his practical skills. His career began at Holcim in Johannesburg, where he excelled in facilities management and quickly rose through the ranks, earning the 'Holcim Best Employee' award. By 2012, he was the national engineering manager, overseeing operations nationwide.
Continuing his education, Theolan completed a Bachelor of Technology in 2015 and later an MBA, both significant achievements while managing family responsibilities. Currently pursuing doctoral studies, he aims to contribute to leadership and talent management. As regional manager, he oversees all aggregates and ready-mix operations, focusing on profit management, strategy implementation, and safety compliance, while fostering employee development.
Theolan's leadership is guided by high personal standards and empowering his team. He values skill development, especially in challenging economic times, and takes pride in nurturing talent. Despite industry challenges like economic downturns and regulatory complexities, he remains focused on team motivation and performance. His doctoral research aims to enhance employer-employee relationships in the industry.
