Dube TradePort Corporation: Planned Airside and Business Aviation Developments at King Shaka International Airport

Dube TradePort Corporation (DTPC) confirms that two complementary aviation-related developments are currently in the planning stages around King Shaka International Airport, aimed at strengthening business aviation capabilities and supporting broader economic growth in KwaZulu-Natal.

Dube TradePort Corporation is establishing an Airside Zone north of Dube TradeZone 1. This development forms part of Dube TradePort’s long-term 50-year masterplan and is now progressing into its implementation phase.

The proposed Airside Zone will accommodate a range of aviation-related infrastructure, including aircraft hangars, office space, and aircraft maintenance facilities. This will create an integrated airside operations environment designed to support private and commercial aviation activities.

Dube TradePort intends to roll out this development over the next three years. While detailed figures relating to the projected investment are still being finalised as part of the planning process, the initiative represents a strategic infrastructure investment aligned with regional growth objectives.

Market interest in these facilities is already evident, with several private aircraft owners and operators having expressed interest in establishing a presence at the precinct. This demand is underpinned by strong market fundamentals and a growing need for dedicated aviation support infrastructure within the province.

The development of these facilities within  the King Shaka International Airport precinct is expected to deliver significant economic benefits. Business aviation plays a critical role in improving connectivity, particularly to remote and underserved areas where scheduled commercial services are limited. It also supports key economic sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and inward investment.

By providing reliable handling services, hangarage, and technical support locally, the development will enhance KwaZulu-Natal’s attractiveness as a base for aircraft operations. This, in turn, is expected to stimulate further investment, create specialised jobs, and strengthen the province’s position as a competitive logistics and aviation hub.

Dube TradePort Corporation remains committed to enabling infrastructure that catalyses economic growth and positions KwaZulu-Natal as a key gateway for trade, logistics, and aviation on the African continent.
