One of Durban’s most iconic hotels, the Hilton Hotel, has officially been rebranded to the Royal Majestic Hotel Durban following its recent reopening. The announcement of the rebranding comes right after African American Properties Hotel Pty, the former parent company of the Hilton Hotel, ended their managerial role at the hotel. The hotel went immediately under the Royal Majestic portfolio and was reopened on 16 March 2026.
With its close proximity to the Durban ICC and boutique nature, the hotel has been a major hotspot for visiting tourists in the Durban area. The towering views of the Durban CBD have also made the hotel a fantastic spot for business guests. The hotel traces its roots back to the late 90s, with South Africa’s first democratic president Nelson Mandela officially opening the hotel in 1997. Designed by South African designers, the hotel retains an authentic South African feel, whilst also being a luxurious hotel.
A spokesperson outlined by IOL confirmed that Royal Majestic had always been the owner over the Hilton Hotel, but that African American Properties Hotel Pty was a managerial partner over the building. The spokesperson commented: "As of February 5, Royal Majestic has officially taken over the full management and operations.” As such, the rebrand to the Royal Majestic Hotel Durban was due to the building forming part of the portfolio of their new parent company Royal Majestic, with the decision made to rename the hotel after its new parent company took over managerial operations.
