Why One Small South Coast Movement Is Changing the Way Women Think About Self-Care

Rachel Kolisi to headline the 2026 Scottfin Revive Selfcare Summit at Umdoni Coastal Forest Estate as the movement grows beyond an event into a community of connection, wellbeing and purpose.
What started as a simple idea on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast is becoming something much bigger.
In a world where women are expected to lead businesses, raise families, care for others and somehow still find time for themselves, a growing movement is asking a different question:
What if self-care wasn't a luxury, but one of the greatest investments a woman could make in her family, her career and her community?
That question sits at the heart of the Coastal Selfcare Movement, founded by Laverne De Jager, a South Coast entrepreneur, which is bringing together local businesses, thought leaders, wellness professionals and community changemakers to reshape the conversation around women's wellbeing on the South Coast.
Its next chapter unfolds on Saturday, 29 August 2026, when women from across KwaZulu-Natal gather at Umdoni Point Sports & Leisure for the Revive Selfcare Summit, proudly supported by headline sponsor Scottfin Insurance Brokers.
The movement has already attracted national attention, with renowned philanthropist, speaker and wellbeing advocate Rachel Kolisi joining this year's programme as one of the guest speakers in a Fireside chat at the event that will host several local leaders.

For organiser Laverne De Jager, however, Rachel's involvement is the result - not the purpose.
"The self-care was never created simply to host an event, although from a marketing perspective it has really helped boost our brand connection" says De Jager. "It began because we saw too many women running on empty. Women are the heartbeat of families, businesses and communities, yet they're often the last people to receive care themselves. We wanted to create something that reminds women that investing in themselves isn't selfish - it's essential. When women are restored, everything around them becomes stronger."
The inaugural summit, held earlier this year, exceeded every expectation.
Rather than simply repeating the format, organisers chose to listen.
This event’s experience has been completely reimagined, moving beyond a traditional speaker event to become an immersive day where women don't simply listen - they participate.
Guests will move, create, learn, share meals, build friendships and leave with practical tools that can be applied long after Women's Month comes to an end.
Headlining those conversations is Rachel Kolisi, whose own journey has inspired women across South Africa.

"Women spend so much of their lives caring for everyone else that they often forget they also deserve care, encouragement and space to grow," says Kolisi. "The most powerful thing we can do is create spaces where women feel safe enough to be honest, inspired enough to dream again and connected enough to know they don't have to walk alone. I'm honoured to be part of a movement that's creating exactly that."
But the Scottfin Revive Selfcare Summit is intentionally rooted in local excellence.
One of the summit's headline experiences will be presented by Kayla-Ann Osborn, chef, entrepreneur and owner of Kayla-Ann's Restaurant, recently recognised as one of South Africa's Eat Out Neighbourhood Gems for 2026.
Rather than simply presenting a cooking demonstration, Osborn will explore the connection between food, hospitality and wellbeing, encouraging women to see nourishing themselves as an important part of self-care.
"Food is one of the simplest ways we care for ourselves and for the people we love," says Osborn. "Around every table, conversations happen, friendships grow and families reconnect. Self-care isn't always about slowing down completely - sometimes it's about creating moments that feed both the body and the soul. That's what I hope women will take away from this experience."
The summit itself reflects another emerging story - the South Coast's growing reputation as a destination for wellness tourism.
Hosted within the beautiful surroundings of Umdoni Point Coastal Forest Estate, guests will experience indigenous coastal forest, ocean views, open spaces alongside wellness experiences, meaningful conversations and exceptional local hospitality in one of the South Coasts most sought after places to live.
Umdoni Point Coastal Forest Estate is not just the venue but also the home of Revive Coastal Luxury Spa, Deidre Van Heerdan Physiotherapists, Kayla-Ann’s, Italian Club and The Pennington Pantry – all female owned businesses, choosing the venue was about far more than finding a place to host an event, it was welcoming guests into a collective home.
It was also about creating an environment that naturally encourages people to breathe more deeply, slow down and reconnect with themselves.

Throughout the day, attendees will experience a jam packed agenda of inspiring Power Circle conversations and activities with respected local leaders, movement sessions, practical wellness advice from Deidre Van Heerden Physiotherapists, creative workshops, styling experiences, networking opportunities and moments intentionally designed to encourage connection rather than competition.
The summit has become a showcase of South Coast collaboration, bringing together entrepreneurs, health professionals, creatives and community leaders who believe that when women thrive, entire communities flourish.
Scottfin Insurance Brokers and Umdoni Point Coastal Forest Estate support as sponsors has helped expand the movement's reach while ensuring it remains firmly rooted in community and accessible to women from across the province.
As Women's Month draws to a close, the Revive Selfcare Summit offers more than a day out.
It offers a different way of thinking.
A reminder that self-care isn't an indulgence.
It's leadership.
It's resilience.
It's community.
And perhaps that is why what began as one local event is becoming one of the South Coast's most meaningful movements.
