KwaZuluNatal’s economic story is one of vision, resilience, innovation and generations of enterprise. Behind the province’s industrial development and commercial growth are businesses whose names have become synonymous with quality, trust, employment and community impact. Their brands represent far more than products and services. They reflect the people, values and legacies that have helped shape our province.

KZN Top Business has spent 28 years recording who matters in this province and why. Building on the success of their established KZN Top Business Portfolio and KZN Top Business Women and Leaders’ publications, they are developing an exciting new edition of the KZN Top Business Brand DNA. Currently in preparation, the publication will celebrate the heritage and identity of KwaZulu-Natal’s most iconic businesses.

Preserving KZN’s Corporate Heritage

Grant Adlam, CEO of KZN Top Business, says, “Many of KwaZulu-Natal’s leading businesses have stories that deserve to be preserved and shared. Some have grown across generations, adapting to changing markets while remaining true to their founding principles. Others have transformed their industries through innovation, investment and a willingness to embrace new opportunities. Together, these businesses form an important part of the province’s economic and cultural heritage.”

While KZN Top Business Leaders focuses on the individuals whose leadership drives organisations forward, KZN Top Business Brand DNA will turn the spotlight on the businesses themselves. It will explore the origins, evolution and enduring significance of their brands, capturing the milestones, people and defining moments that have shaped their identities.

The proposed leather-bound edition is intended to be a premium, oversized publication with lasting value. Designed as a collector’s volume, participating businesses will be provided with an opportunity to document their heritage in a format that can be treasured by current leadership, future generations, employees, clients and stakeholders.

In an increasingly digital world, there is something meaningful about a beautifully produced physical publication. It creates a tangible record of achievement and provides a lasting reminder of the organisations that have contributed to KwaZulu-Natal’s development.

A Legacy Worth Sharing

Adlam added, “Every established business has a story to share. This story may begin with an entrepreneur who recognised an opportunity, a family whose enterprise grew over generations, or a team that developed a new approach to solving an industry challenge. Over time, that story becomes part of the brand’s identity.”

For some organisations, the defining feature is longevity. For others, it is the ability to reinvent themselves, enter new markets, develop new technologies or maintain a reputation for excellence through periods of economic uncertainty. KZN Top Business Brand DNA will celebrate these different journeys, recognising that there is no single formula for building a successful and enduring business.

The publication will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the role that corporate brands play in the wider provincial economy. Strong brands can inspire confidence, attract investment, create employment and help establish KwaZulu-Natal as a destination for business and innovation.

An Invitation To Participate

KZN Top Business invites qualifying businesses, family enterprises, corporate groups, industrial pioneers and emerging market leaders to participate in this new initiative. Participation offers an opportunity to showcase your brand’s origins, milestones, values and achievements while contributing to a publication that celebrates the breadth and depth of business in our province.

The launch, set for March 2027 is planned as a flagship boardroom breakfast, bringing together business leaders and participating organisations to introduce the concept and celebrate the corporate heritage represented in the publication.

Contact the KZN Top Business team to discuss how your company’s story can be represented in this special publication.
