A DEEP COMMITMENT TO KZN’S GROWTH

Updated: 2 days ago

There is a particular energy in KwaZulu-Natal’s business community at the moment – a sense that, despite the challenges, opportunity is being created by businesses and leaders prepared to think differently, invest for the future and remain committed to the province. This issue of Business Sense celebrates that spirit. On our front page, we feature Neville Beekman of the Beekman Group, following the company’s recognition as the KZN Top Brand Winner at the KZN Top Business Awards 2026.

It is a fitting recognition of a family business that has built a strong presence in the province and whose story reflects the importance of vision, consistency and trust in creating an enduring brand (see page 3). The concept of brand is explored further in this issue. As Merisha Kassie of EY Africa points out, some of the most valuable assets within a business do not necessarily appear on a balance sheet. Reputation, trust, culture, leadership, relationships and brand increasingly influence customer loyalty, employee retention, investor confidence and long-term resilience. (See page 6)

In line with this article, we also feature Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) Chief Executive Officer, Lindiwe Rakharebe, who has been honoured with the prestigious KZN Top Business Recognition Award 2026, in acknowledgement of her outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment to excellence and significant contribution to the economic growth and business landscape of KwaZulu-Natal. (See page 10) These themes are particularly relevant as KwaZulu-Natal seeks to strengthen its position as an investment and business destination. Across this issue, we see practical examples of investment translating into growth and opportunity.

Outworx’s expansion at Dube TradePort, for example, is expected to create around 1,800 jobs for young people, demonstrating how investment can support both economic growth and skills development. (see page 7) Our province has no shortage of talent, resilience and entrepreneurial ambition. The opportunity now is to convert these strengths into sustainable growth.

As such KZN Top Business has partnered with Rex Bowden and the Catalyze team for ENGAGE Trade and Services Africa at the Durban ICC, from 6 to 8 October 2026.This event comprises three days of structured business matchmaking, exhibition and roundtable, and workshop programming. (See page 8) Thank you for reading Business Sense. We hope this issue informs, inspires and reminds you of the remarkable businesses and people helping to shape KwaZulu-Natal.
