EMPOWERING LEADERS GLOBALLY
Updated: Sep 3
Carol Ofori from East Coast Radio welcomed Aletta Rochat, DTM, as her Women Crush Wednesday guest in studio around this time last year. The soulful interview celebrated Rochat as the first African and only the 10th woman in 100 years to become International President of Toastmasters International. Rochat shared her journey from hobbyist speaker to global leader, and the lessons she learned about confidence, leadership and finding your voice.
As South Africa marked Women’s Month in August 2026, that recognition continues to inspire leaders across the globe. Rochat served as International President for the 2025–2026 term, bringing an African perspective to one of the world’s leading communication organisations. Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills worldwide. Rochat has said her role matters for what it represents for African potential.
A former marketing manager who founded her own coaching practice, she helps executives build confidence and presence. She believes many miss opportunities because they cannot express themselves clearly. Her work shows that effective communication opens doors in boardrooms and beyond. Rochat’s journey reminds business professionals that leadership knows no boundaries. Strong communication is a business advantage that can be learned, and African excellence is already thriving. Business leaders: invest in your voice, develop your presence, and lead with the confidence Africa has already shown the world.
