Her current work focuses mainly on coaching and mentoring, which is a process that can empower people at all levels to leverage their unique strengths and achieve their goals. She currently serves on the board of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the first vice president. She is well equipped to work as a high performance and life coach and mentor. Jacquie has worked across the board, with executives, managers, small business owners and women from various backgrounds. Jacquie says, “I work with people who feel that they are stuck in their careers by helping them to move into meaningful and impactful roles so that they can help move their organisations forward. I know exactly how scary it can be to think about making changes because we’re so afraid of the unknown.” In order to assist people Jacquie has adopted her signature system of ‘U-2-Great’ for her individual coaching methodology. This involves a bespoke coaching process for every client covering goal setting, addressing their current reality, looking at options and finding a way forward. Bursary Candidates Jacquie coaches a number of bursary candidates to deal with issues that come up in their lives such as career counselling, life coaching as well as high performance management and leadership coaching. Mental Health Counselling and Coaching Jacquie has been working with people in business and graduates that experience mental health problems through her coaching and mentoring programme. She has done presentations at conferences and has found that there is a strong need for business to engage more robustly on this topic. There are emerging rich and vibrant discussions in this area, especially after Covid, and with younger employees. Counselling concentrates on the person’s past and deals with healing emotional pain or dealing with emotional difficulties. It is therefore geared towards understanding and resolving the past, thereby helping someone move forward and be able to reach their potential, and work towards being their best selves.

- Bell Equipment , With secure roots in KwaZulu-Natal, Bell Equipment is today recognised globally as a company that designs, manufactures, distributes, and supports a wide range of earthmoving and material handling equipment into various industries around the world. The company was established by Irvine Bell in 1954 as a small engineering and agricultural repair business on the KZN North Coast. Irvine had a passion for innovation and manufactured various inventions, including a self-loading sugar cane trailer and an overhead transfer crane for local farmers. It was the development of a tri-wheeled cane loader a few years later, however, that revolutionised the sugar industry and irrevocably changed the company’s trajectory. Sugar farmers of that time employed a sizeable labour force to manually cut, stack and load cane for transport to the mills. A few rudimentary cane loading machines had appeared on the scene, but Irvine designed a whole new class of machine that was simple to operate and highly manoeuvrable. Using hydrostatic technology and able to control each of the large drive wheels independently, the Bell Tri-wheeler could turn instantly on its own axis and had enough power to lift and stack sugar cane infield or load a trailer. The Bell Tri-wheeler, now in the F-series generation, is still in production and used extensively in sugar farming and forestry. Many older models remain in operation, which speaks volumes about the build quality and longevity of Bell machines. Global ADT Specialist The early 1980s saw the arrival of Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs) imported from Europe. Although effective and versatile, Bell saw room for improvement and fine-tuned their design to better cope with the harsh operating conditions common in Africa. Today, through a passion for innovation and continuous improvement, the company is recognised as a global ADT specialist and manufacturer with the largest and most advanced range in the world. The current E-series generation ranges from 18 to 50t suited to construction, infrastructure, bulk earthworks, mining, and quarrying. Bell is also influencing global ADT trends with its 4x4 ADT range, led by the ground-breaking 60-ton 4x4 crossover concept, the B60E, which targets high production operations where poor underfoot conditions limit the suitability of rigid dump trucks. As a technological innovation leader, Bell has pioneered several features geared at improving productivity and safety while delivering the lowest cost per tonne of material moved. In addition, Bell Equipment’s proprietary fleet monitoring system, Fleetm@tic®, enables customers to manage their fleet according to their operating environments. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Bell has three distinct business units, Bell Mining & Construction, Bell Underground Mining, and Bell Forestry & Agriculture. Each provides a dedicated focus in terms of both product development and support. Bell Mining & Construction Bell Articulated Dump Trucks are at the core of the company’s mining and construction business, which is complemented by the Bell Versatruck programme, which offers niche custom equipment, such as water tankers, hooklifts, flat decks and fire trucks, based on the proven Bell ADT chassis. Highly customisable, Bell Tracked Carriers provide a durable short-haul solution for construction sites with soft underfoot conditions that require low ground pressure machines either for environmental or traction reasons. In 2024 the company will start production of the Bell Motor Grader range. Bell Underground Mining With a focus on meeting the future needs of underground mining, the company has the Bell Rockscaler, based on the Bell Tri-wheeler, and underground dump trucks that have an autonomous ready platform and are equipped with the same industry-leading safety features and production advantages found in our surface ADTs. Bell Forestry & Agriculture The cornerstone of Bell in its formative years, the company sees long-term value in strengthening and growing its Bell Forestry and Agriculture business unit. The well-established Tri-wheeler, Haulage Tractor and Timber Truck have evolved to keep abreast of technology advances to offer improvements in safety, comfort, and productivity. The company has also introduced new products, such as the Skogger, FASTfell, Log Pro, Cane Pro and UltEco Slew Loader, to provide niche mechanised solutions. Within South Africa Bell distributes the JCB Agriculture range alongside the Bell Forestry and Agricultural range providing a customised range of equipment that appeals to the broader farming community. Bell Equipment Sales South Africa In South Africa, Bell is also a full range materials handling distributor and an equipment supplier thanks to strategic partnerships with global manufacturers such as JCB, Finlay and Kobelco. This enables Bell to complement its own mining and construction range with diverse equipment including wheel loaders, excavators, backhoe loaders, telehandlers, skid steers, forklifts, compaction machinery and a material processing product line. Distribution and support take place through Bell Equipment’s network of 22 Customer Service Centres strategically located throughout the country. Our Bell Culture Bell Equipment employs locally and is an integral part of the communities in which it operates. Listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the group takes its responsibilities as a corporate citizen seriously purchasing from local supplies wherever possible and investing in meaningful outreach opportunities with a particular focus on education, training, and development, both internally and externally. The strength of the Bell brand lies in the strong family values of integrity, honesty, accountability, and respect that are the foundation of the business. Customers are valued as part of the extended Bell family, creating a unique and healthy working environment. Our motto ‘Strong Reliable Machines, Strong Reliable Support’ represents our customer-devoted beliefs, ideals and ethical stance throughout our manufacturing, distribution and support network that provides technical backup and advice to our customers around the globe for our world-class products.

- Tyson Properties , Chris Tyson’s founding vision was to create a specialist agency that was not only in tune with the needs of the KwaZulu-Natal property market but one that offered clients exceptional service and agents a platform to excel Still a proudly KwaZulu-Natal brand but with an ever-expanding national footprint, Tyson Properties continues to be a trailblazer in South Africa’s somewhat turbulent property sector. Every year, the company has exceeded its forecasts, grown its footprint and increased its market share and service offering. It takes a special company to not only navigate a global recession in 2008 and but also a two-year pandemic and ongoing national energy and economic challenges only to emerge stronger and better year on year. Interest rates plunged to the lowest levels in 2020 and then steadily climbed, placing the property market under stress. Dynamic and flexible, the Tyson Properties team persevered and proved to be the perfect guide for buyers and sellers. Building a company on a sound foundation is what founder and CEO, Chris Tyson, set out to do in 2005 and strong professionalism, intuitive knowledge of its markets and solid relationships have seen the company thrive. Setting up that first office in Morningside together with business partner Gavin Cunningham and a staff of just six now seems to be a long way away. After the 2015 opening of its offices in Gauteng and the Western Cape, Tyson Properties experienced an aggressive growth spurt across these three provinces as the company began to build strong market share within a very short space of time. By 2021, Tyson Properties had registered its best ever growth year during the most difficult of times with turnover having grown by 25 percent. In 2022, Tyson Property Holdings was created to support and grow the group’s regional operations. Tyson Properties is now double the size it was when Tyson took the plunge and decided to go national nine years ago. “I can still remember agonising over whether to expand nationally. We had 18 offices in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) at the time. We actually opened Cape Town and Johannesburg simultaneously. There are now six offices in Gauteng and seven in the Western Cape with a staff complement of 450 members nationally,” he says. Tyson Properties opened in East London two years ago and the company now plans to extend its reach still further. “We’ve done exceptionally well and feel that the time is now right for us to move into other areas,” he adds. Despite a subdued economy, Tyson Properties registered growth throughout 2023, adding three new offices in Somerset West, Overstrand (Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond and Pringle Bay) and Pietermaritzburg and welcoming 30 new agents in Gauteng. Throughout, the company has embraced change and moved with the times. Tyson’s approach is to spot the often-unexpected opportunities in different parts of the market as it evolves. Tyson Properties is hitting the hotspots in the Western Cape with Cape Town itself as well as towns such as Somerset West and Paarl proving extremely popular. Johannesburg remains the economic hub of the country and is the property market that never sleeps. “Believe it or not, there are more people moving to Johannesburg every year than any other area in South Africa. So, it’s a massive market with a lot of entry-level buyers. While market conditions in and around Joburg remain under pressure, there are still a lot of deals being done,” he says. Turning to his home province, Tyson says KZN remains both one of the most resilient and stable markets in the country. “The province has a lot to offer and property prices are still a lot more affordable than in other parts of South Africa. This, coupled with great weather, infrastructure and some really good schools makes KZN a great area in which to invest,” he observes. Ballito is a hotspot right now. “That once-small coastal town is now abuzz with shopping centres, excellent government and private schools and development. While still giving the locals a feel of a coastal town, it has also become an area of choice for working in Johannesburg and living on the coast. The airport is only a 15-minute drive away and it’s a quick flight,” Tyson says. But activity is not confined to the coast and Tyson says that there is a very real resurgence in the Midlands with areas such as Howick and Nottingham Road doing exceptionally well. No matter where the change or what the new trend, he is confident that Tyson Properties will never be far away. As one of KZN (and the country’s) most iconic property brands, it has matured into a company that will always be a leader rather than a follower and one of which he can be proud. CHRIS TYSON's interest in the property industry started from an early age as his family comes from a property background. Tyson said, "My father had a construction company. My mother was an agent for many years and owned her own agency. I can remember going to property viewings with her as a small boy." In 2001, his own real estate career started as an agent for a small agency in Durban. He then moved to a larger agency, where he built his initial Tyson Properties team. In 2005, the first Tyson Properties office was opened in Durban. Over the past year, Tyson Properties has consolidated its presence in the KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng markets and now has 31 offices. Going forward, Tyson Properties is expected to continue as a leader in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial property sector and grow the group's national footprint. In Gauteng, Tyson Properties have extended its footprint drastically and opened a new flagship office in Dunkeld West to accommodate its growth into the Sandton and Parks areas. Tyson Properties is also in negotiations to open its third office in Johannesburg later this year. In addition to marketing residential, commercial and rental properties, Tyson Properties has expanded its service offering to include a property management division that specialises in the administration of a number of exclusive properties and sectional title developments. Although there are many influences on a business success. Tyson says that that it has become a business owner's responsibility to make sure that their business is sustainable by constantly challenging the norm and striving for change and excellence. "Often doing new things means cutting existing budgets to achieve this. We do, however, see this as an advantage and have always used tough times to grow the company to position ourselves better for upturns in the marketplace. One either has to have reserves to ensure sustainability or work within a budget that creates reserves. This however can stunt the growth of a company," says Tyson. Part of ensuring sustainability is apparent in his leadership style, which he says is very relaxed. However, says Tyson, "I expect a lot but also give a lot in return. I look at every employee as a partner." "I also believe that I'm very inclusive and involve the team in driving projects and campaigns. I have always tried to balance the work environment, making it fair for both the agent and the company. This is achieved by supporting my internal team and building partnerships with outsourced agencies such as our marketing agency and public relations consultant." One of the business development advances that is extremely close to his heart is in the development of the newly formed After Sales Division. This division will deal with every aspect of the sale, from the date the sale agreement is signed, to the day that the property transfers, and beyond. "With the increase of first time buyers coming into the market we feel we can add real value here, ensuring that our clients receive the best possible advice and guidance," commented Tyson. Tyson is also committed to giving back to the community, which he says, "is very much a part of who I am and something I am passionate about". Before branching out into real estate, his early working career was for a large non-profit organisation. Consequently, each of the Tyson branches has their own social responsibility projects in their areas. Tyson Properties is also working hard at developing a group initiative. When not at work, Tyson spends time with his family to ensure that his own life is balanced. He concluded, "My personal life is very important to me and I make sure I balance it. I am married and have a son of four and a half years. We are a very homely family and we love to travel. We also enjoy the outdoors and keeping fit."CHRIS TYSON's interest in the property industry started from an early age as his family comes from a property background. In May 2005, Sewnarain opened the first private vault in Umhlanga’s Gateway Mall. “Our first site was selected because of its proximity to significant business and residential developments in KwaZulu-Natal. Also, the layout of the Gateway complex facilitates International Bank Vaults’ strict security standards,” he explained. International Bank Vaults facilities are also available in Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton. Since its opening, IBV has grown exponentially and operates branches globally in London, Switzerland, Dubai and South Africa. IBV CSI PROJECTS IBV International Vaults prides itself in its CSI initiatives. They are a well-oiled machine with about 10 years’ experience from doing various charitable initiatives such as the IBV Children’s VIP Day. Essentially the day signifies the reversal of roles where underprivileged children from various children’s homes within the KZN area are treated as the VIPs for the day, with business leaders becoming their executive helpers for the day. The event encompasses various activities and treats for the children, ranging from food and beverage stalls, fun and activity playgrounds, educational, career, art, music, beauty & fashion centres, and an eye-catching supercar display. The day culminates with a two hour musical concert featuring some of South Africa’s most accomplished artists. This is a ‘cashless’ initiative and all sponsors who partake in the event do so of their own volition. This social initiative is also a perfect platform for businesses to interact with the homes in the hope that they will use this opportunity to create an ongoing relationship. Sewnarain said, “Today these children are living in our world but tomorrow we will live in theirs. We believe that by showing these children how special they are by giving them a day just for them, we are making a meaningful difference in not only our country but our world too.” During the 2020 Covid 19 lockdown period IBV was quick to assist the 2000 homeless people housed at eThekwini municipal shelters that required assistance. “I was able to respond quickly because I already had a team of people who were able to do the logistics. When we make a commitment, we underwrite it ourselves,” he said.Ashok Sewnarain is the owner of South Africa's first privately owned safe deposit vaults, IBV International Bank Vaults which is located in Durban's Gateway Mall and in Sandton, Johannesburg. Sewnarain was born in Mayville, an Indiandesignated area in apartheid South Africa. His father ran a small, often struggling, estate agency and taught his son to never give up. When Sewnarain took over the family business, he injected new ideas into it, expanding into the hotel and hospitality industry as the barriers put up by apartheid were dismantled. "It was around 2004 when I overheard a bank teller saying that there is a long waiting list of people who wanted to put their valuables in the bank's vault. I jokingly said that I will open my own vault," Sewnarain says with a wry smile. Sewnarain began to seriously think about opening a vault. He did extensive research, which took him to other countries to look at how the vaults are constructed, the finance involved, security features and a host of other things. He found that there is substantial demand for such sophisticated facilities. In May 2005, Sewnarain opened the first private vault, in Umhlanga's Gateway Mall. "We choose the best malls and prime spots for our vaults. Our first site was selected because of its proximity to significant business and residential developments in KwaZulu-Natal. Also, the layout of the Gateway complex facilitates International Bank Vaults' strict security standards." "It's a risk to have a safe at home because many people have access to your home. We offer a solution, and peace of mind. We add value to the country in a sense that people can safely keep their gold and other assets in the country instead of sending them offshore." International Bank Vaults offers safety deposit boxes in modern-day fortresses. The vaults are built to international standards and specifications, complete with steel-reinforced concrete and protected by a sophisticated, multitiered security system. They are monitored by trained professionals and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Sewnarain subscribes to the philosophy that says one should persevere and be determined to pursue his dreams in whatever business that one chooses. He says, "Business is full of risk and challenges that we must confront on a daily basis." He added that he had had many failures in his business career, but all had made him more knowledgeable and humble. However, Sewnarain says, "You must be bold and have courage to launch business ventures with honesty and respect for staff, customers, suppliers and service providers." " Life is about dreaming big. Dream to make a million dollars, rather than a million rand. The most successful people in the world dream big. It's free. It has no boundaries and borders," he explained. International Bank Vaults' customers have special, reserved parking close to the facilities and many of them drive exotic cars. The IBV Supercar Club has spun off from the vault business; has a membership of more than 700 super-rich car owners and is recognised as one of the world's leading supercar clubs. Sewnarain is its founder, leading patron and chairman. The members of the club often raise funds for charity. In 2014, they won the Guinness world record for raising R1 million for Child Welfare of South Africa in record time. The club has also partnered with the United Nations Children's Fund Unicef in raising money for charity. Sewnarain commented that he tries to create a balance between good business and profit through providing community and social support. This balance is achieved by promoting a spirit of social entrepreneurship, which he believes is an important aspect that every business leader should adopt in their own enterprises. He concluded, "The more that you give the more that you get." He found that there is substantial demand for such sophisticated facilities. He concluded, "The more that you give the more that you get."

The vaults are monitored by highly trained professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. IBV prides itself with cutting-edge technology that fortifies and protects your most confidential assets and valuables. The necessity of its electronic designs and high-end systems enables the company’s clientele to protect their valuables and have a continuum process of access in the most convenient way. The safety deposit boxes vary in four convenient sizes to customise your storage needs. Every assigned locker is fitted with a dual lock security system. With 700 supercar members across South Africa, the IBV Supercar Club is about to go global, with members in major international cities. The IBV Supercar Club also aims to provide the best service, quality, and price (preferential insurance and finance rates) to its clients and members, harmonising with the highest of IBV standards. When we make a commitment, we underwrite it ourselves,” he said.Full Name of Company: International Vaults Nature of Business: Banking Services Services: Safe Deposit Vault Facility Date Established: 2005 No. of Employees: 100 Bankers: Standard Bank KEY PERSONNEL CEO: Ashok Sewnarain CONTACT DETAILS Head Office Physical Address: F119, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga Postal Address: P.O. Sewnarain was born in Mayville, an Indiandesignated area in apartheid South Africa. His father ran a small, often struggling, estate agency and taught his son to never give up. - Funky Pants , The first in the world to come to the table with the bright funky, ridiculously comfy Funky PantsTracy the founder of Funky Pants. says that the brand was not a planned venture, but that she was inspired by her husband to start the business. “When we first started making pants, they were only for paddlers, and we use to get someone to make them. They were awful, they were like grandpa pants – long, baggy, and hanging. So, I started adjusting the pattern and made them so that when Billy and myself wore the pants, we were comfortable while wearing them. We both have got different bodies and we want the best and that’s what we worked on until we were happy. We were wearing them, and we were trying them out and we were adjusting them to what we wanted – a fully lined mid-thigh length, paddling tight. So, it’s our comfort, it’s our product that we want to wear at races,” explained Tracy. The pants turned into Tracy’s Funky Pants, which turned into Funky Pants. Tracy and Billy used to organise surf ski paddling races and gave away ‘Funky Pants’ as prizes for the paddlers. They were soon asked to bring the ‘Funky Pants’ to events. The first time they took them to an event, they were supposed to take twenty pairs, however they took two hundred pairs, which much to Tracy’s shock, were all sold out at the first registration party. “That’s the first time we realised that this is the direction we should go. In 2004, when we started bringing out the Funky Pants in bright colours, we just happened to be one of the first in the world to come to the table with the bright funky, ridiculously comfy funky pants,” says Tracy. The Funky Pants brand has since grown into catering for other sporting disciplines. These include cycling, running, trail running, gym, and yoga. The brand has also expanded into manufacturing swimming costumes and recently sports bras. In order to get the business started, Tracy and Billy needed to do the long haul and went to every sporting event they could. “We’ve sat there, we’ve done everything ourselves. Billy and I are a ‘mom and pop’ business operating from our garage in Durban North. If anyone comes to us with any problem, we will do our best to sort it out. We will handle it personally and I don’t think that you can get that service at most places. My dad helps us, and we’ve only recently increased our staff complement and got some lovely girls to work with us. We’re a little family, we have always been hands-on, and it really does make a difference.” Constantly Growing The Harker’s have a library of designs and colours that clients can select from for their pants which is constantly growing and is possibly the largest selection in the whole world. Personalised designs for all types of clubs, schools, and teams are available. In addition, Funky Pants has twenty-five agents throughout the world and manufactures kits for international teams and clubs as well. Funky Pants is locally based; the fabric is printed, and the pants are manufactured in Durban. Making a Difference Funky Pants does like to get involved in different fund raisers and where they can the Harker’s strive to make a difference. They started by getting involved with the SPCA in Durban and then progressed to the East London SPCA. “We basically make up a print, or they make up a print, and then we sell the Funky Pants. We give SPCA R50 for every pair that we sell and it’s just a continuous thing, We like to support them. Funky pants have also been involved with The Sabrina Love Fund for a few years now and they’ve sold many shorts and received money which is helping them,” says Tracy. Being Happy The future goal for Funky Pants is just to sell more Funky Pants. “As long as we are having a fun lifestyle with lots of memories and being happy as a family, that’s all we really want. We don’t want to turn into Funky Pants into a huge empire. What drives me is the kind of things that I enjoy in life and that’s what keeps me going. We’ve got four children, Henry is twelve, Eddie and Lucy are twins, they are nine, and we’ve got the little monster, Charlie, he is seven. The kids have been a big part of Funky Pants, they are our little mascots, and they wear Funky Pants non-stop,” concluded Tracy. Their pursuit of excellence has been acknowledged through numerous prestigious awards, including the PMR Award from 2008 to 2022, the Caxton Reader’s Choice Award in 2022, the Daily News Your Choice Award for 2022, and the SAIDSA Reaction Man and SAIDSA Tech Man 2023 Award. Blue Security’s fundamental purpose is to create safer communities where local people can thrive. Their core vision is to see active, engaged communities living free from fear; where people can walk freely in the streets, and children can play safely outside, supported by proactively partnering with stakeholders to create safe, thriving communities, with world-class technology solutions, industry-leading capabilities, and an unmatched passion for customer service. By integrating the principles of King IV corporate governance, Blue Security prioritises transparency, accountability, and ethical practices across all aspects of the organisation. Their commitment to community, property and personal safety and security extends beyond industry standards as they consistently evaluate and enhance their strategies to better safeguard the well-being of their communities and customers. Furthermore, they actively contribute to the South African and local KZN economies. Blue Security’s core values, encompassing Care, Ownership, Passion, and Service, are deeply ingrained within the company. With over 650 dedicated staff members and partnerships with 130 business partner technical teams, they not only prioritise crime mitigation but also actively support communities and businesses to thrive within KZN. Their strong community networks, coupled with their dominant presence and the largest fleet in KZN, enable them to combat crime effectively and contribute to the growth of the economy. They firmly believe in the power of partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders, including Community Policing Forums, Business Against Crime, Neighbourhood Watches, and law enforcement agencies. Blue Security’s business model focuses on targeted relevance, enabling them to address the specific needs of the customers and communities in KZN’s North, Central, and South regions. This encompasses community activities, engagements, and crime awareness support. Their approach goes beyond traditional armed response services, as they strive to drive a proactive community policing and partnering strategy. Blue Security provides their clients with real solutions that minimise preventable crime. Alongside the largest fleet of response vehicles in greater Durban, their Armed Response Officers, and a state-of-the-art Control Centre for designated areas, they have established a Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) led by highly trained ambassadors and tactical officers. They are supported by a Community Command Centre (CCC) that monitors and responds to over 450 business and residential community crime WhatsApp groups. These operatives collaborate with neighbourhood watch groups, emergency first responders, SAPS, Metro Police, and dedicated paramedics, employing a holistic, intelligence-based approach to combatting crime. In Blue Security’s ongoing commitment to transparency, their Crime Map, which displays incidents reported to their Control Centre, serves as a valuable tool for Blue’s business and residential customers, as well as the public. It provides an interactive and up-to-date overview of the latest crime trends across Durban and further allows the user to set up “notification zones”, which, once done, will send the user a message of incidents occurring in the specific area. The commitment to innovation at Blue Security is clearly demonstrated by their range of value-added services, such as Blue Sky. This comprehensive offering includes Blue Aid Medical Emergency and Blue Help Roadside Assistance, showcasing their dedication to enhancing their clients’ safety and security. They make substantial investments in cutting-edge technology, such as Eye in The Sky cameras and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems. These advancements ensure improved surveillance in public areas and bolster their clients’ overall safety. With the Blue Security Mobile Panic App, you can receive instant notifications and stay informed about your alarm system’s activity. The knowledge that your panic button is directly connected to immediate assistance during emergencies provides you with peace of mind. Through collaborations with their partners Dahua Technology and IDS, they embrace the latest technological breakthroughs, allowing them to offer smarter and more effective ways of safeguarding your property and personal well-being. These partnerships have resulted in the development of safety and security power solutions that address challenges like load shedding, enabling us to better cater to their clients’ needs. As we navigate the dynamic challenges of an ever-changing world, Blue Security’s vision of “active, engaged communities living free of fear” deeply resonates with their mission to foster safer environments where the local communities in KZN can thrive. To establish a robust defence against crime in neighbourhoods, Blue implements its Blue Zone strategy. This approach involves tailoring bespoke solutions based on the specific geographical area and the prevalent types of crime, while also considering the strategic safety needs of the residents. They prioritise real-time data collection and utilise artificial intelligence and data analytics to provide timely alerts. Through their “Virtual Estates” initiative, they offer cutting-edge solutions that leverage state-of-the-art AI-powered technology to enhance the safety of residents residing in non-gated estates.HENK VAN BEMMELEN, CEO of Blue Security says, "I fell in love with the security business from an early age - it is in my blood. I can't remember ever waking up and not wanting to go to work. If you have a passion for your business, then you can't go wrong." After the completion of his two year South African defence force call up period, Van Bemmelen's experiences motivated him to join a security company. He started as a reaction officer and enjoyed the work involved, as combatting crime has always been an overall concern in South Africa. Over the past 29 years, Van Bemmelen has worked his way up through the divisions and ranks of the security business. Eight years ago, he relocated from Johannesburg to Durban, to take up the position as operations director at Blue Security. Since then he has been promoted to managing director and then in October 2018 to his current position as CEO. He says that his journey through the ranks of the security industry has been enabled by having good mentors. "Having a mentor is a top priority for anyone want to progress in their career. My mentors have become friends and people that I have learnt from beyond the on-the-job experience. A mentor will also push you harder than you do yourself." Van Bemmelen commented that the experience of having a mentor had prompted him to focus on providing mentorship to other employees within the company. "The reality of this job is that it is people driven and it is often hardcore; you really get tested, so support is required," he explained. The main challenges of his role as CEO are firstly to ensure that the Blue Security 'ship' is pointing in the right direction, and secondly to ensure that the company is keeping up with the technological innovations that are driving the security business. Van Bemmelen explained that his leadership style needed to fit the people and their job descriptions. "I like to empower people to make decisions. It is not in my style to micro manage employees, I allow them the space to deliver the goods. I can connect with people and be flexible as I am aware of the different responsibilities of their jobs' demands. However, there are times when I have to be stern." In addition, said Van Bemmelen, the younger generation does things differently. "Consequently, within Blue Security, we have to keep a balance between the younger employees who are pushing boundaries all the time and the senior employees who need to keep up to date with trends such as new communication channels." A major challenge of the security industry is to keep up with change. "The world is constantly evolving; we have to keep up with innovations and we need to ensure that we meet the expectations of our clients. The security business is a disruptive industry, which is not the same as 20 years ago and we cannot stay in our comfort zone but continually need to adapt." Blue Security has invested heavily in research and development to implement top end technologies to improve the security for its residential and business customers. "The business runs 24 hours a day - crime does not wait - and we want to make a difference in the communities we serve," he explained. When not at work, Van Bemmelen spends much time at the gym as he says that staying fit and healthy keeps his mind clear. He is a family man who enjoys the strong support of his family, who understand his passion for his work. Another of Van Bemmelen's loves is his motorbike on which he and his wife have toured South Africa. They have covered many thousands of kilometres together and are currently planning a trip to Lesotho, and on to the Eastern and Western Cape as well as Namibia.HENK VAN BEMMELEN, CEO of Blue Security says, "I fell in love with the security business from an early age - it is in my blood. - Afrisam, Celebrating its 90th year during such challenging times for construction in South Africa certainly highlights AfriSam’s legacy of resilience and its commitment to Africa’s developmentCelebrating its 90th year during such challenging times for construction in South Africa certainly highlights AfriSam’s legacy of resilience and its commitment to Africa’s development, according to Construction Materials KZN Regional Manager of Operations, Theolan Govender. “Our success over the years demonstrates not only our world class standing but equally how we respond to the changing needs of our customers and the broader community – in good times and hard times,” says Govender. “We are proud that our contribution ranges from the highest quality construction materials through to affordable solutions for emerging contractors, as well as targeted social responsibility and sponsorship initiatives that build cohesion in our society.” AfriSam’s legacy began in 1934 as the Anglovaal Portland Cement Company, South Africa’s second cement company. Importantly, though, it was the first to diversify its offerings into other construction materials. This included readymix concrete through the company Pioneer Concrete and aggregate stone through Hippo Quarries. The evolution of the business saw its name change to Anglo Alpha 1937 and Alpha Ltd in 1996. Global Attention “Steady growth made us one of the largest suppliers of construction materials for many years, also delivering cement to our southern African neighbours,” he says. “Our standing in the industry meant that we attracted the interest of global players when our economy opened up with the advent of democracy in 1994.” This led to the company becoming part of Holcim, the world’s largest cement producer. Even then, AfriSam had built a world class foundation, with its Ulco cement plant ranking as the third best performing operation in the global Holcim group. The AfriSam brand itself was born after an historic Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) transaction in 2008. “The company could already boast some of the world’s best expertise in the sector, being involved in mega-projects such as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project in the 1980s and 1990s,” he says. “This investment in skills has been a pillar of AfriSam’s success and longevity, and remains a focus for us even during economic downturns.” Iconic Structures As a result, AfriSam has been associated with some of South Africa’s most iconic structures – signifying its direct contribution to the infrastructure on which the country’s growth has been built. These include King Shaka Airport, Spring Grove Dam and, most recently, the upgrade of the N3 highway. “This has earned us the most trusted name in South Africa’s readymix space,” Govender argues. “What is significant about this today is that the larger contractors have been forced to slim down in recent years – so they often do not have their own concrete technologists in-house.” This makes its biggest customers increasingly reliant on AfriSam’s technical expertise in cement and concrete, which is vital for ensuring compliance with project specifications so that structures last for their full expected lifespan and beyond. Succession, training and upgrading of skills take place continuously alongside research and development in the knowledge that future economic growth depends upon it. Support in Tough Times Reflecting on the ways that AfriSam develops and adapts its product range to suit the times, Govender points to the company’s ability to serve customers and the country when the economic climate is tough. “It is perhaps especially in times like now, when there has been sustained pressure on the economy and livelihoods, that companies like AfriSam need to prove their mettle,” he says. “For instance, our R&D has produced cost effective concrete solutions like Starmix, which is ideally suited for the building industry. It can, however, also be ordered in small quantities, making it ideal for the residential builder as well.” In a country beset by housing shortages, urban migration and unemployment, this allows small building works to continue as a basic step in uplifting people’s lives. “Most importantly, this work can carry on without compromising quality, and still prioritising our commitment to a lower carbon footprint for the generations that will follow us,” he emphasises. “This goes hand-in-hand with the support we provide to emerging and small builders through training and knowledge sharing.” Cohesion and Unity Beyond the worksite, AfriSam’s long history has also been characterised by its social responsibility, aimed at supporting the broader community in their efforts to create a better future. Sport has always been central to social cohesion. “We were proud to be a partner to the Springbok rugby team as they prepared for – and finally won – the latest Rugby World Cup in France,” Govender says, highlighting how success builds the national psyche and the confidence of citizens in the future. The range of other investments includes youth employment initiatives and various community activities. Looking Ahead Looking ahead at projects that signify better times ahead, Govender notes that AfriSam will be contributing to two of the projects in the latest phase of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project – the Polihali Dam and the 34 km transfer tunnel. “As a responsible construction materials producer, we comply with Social and Labour Plan regulations, but our vision and actions go well beyond that,” concludes Govender. “With our 90 years in business, we exemplify the value of stable businesses that actively develop skills and sustain jobs, retaining the groundwork on which the economy can grow.”

“With our 90 years in business, we exemplify the value of stable businesses that actively develop skills and sustain jobs, retaining the groundwork on which the economy can grow.”Nature of Business: Construction Materials Services / Products: Cement, Aggregate, Readymix Concrete & Slagment Date Established: 1934 No. of Employees: 1 200 Industry Quality Standards : • South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) • ISO 9001 • South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) approved B-BBEE Status: Level 2 VISION A positive African future, built by AfriSam, the A1 Choice in construction materials. The company also joined forces with KZN’s provincial rugby team, the Cell C Sharks, when they signed on as associate sponsors. They followed this with a significant show of support for the South African horse racing industry and KwaZulu-Natal racing and tourism, when they were announced as the naming rights sponsor for Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse and Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse. The brand has also been involved with the Comrades Marathon for the last 11 years and is currently the Halfway Mark sponsor. In August 2021, Hollywoodbets was announced as the principal partner for newly promoted English Premier League team Brentford Football Club, making them the first South African betting company to feature on the front of a Premier League soccer jersey. This sponsorship formed part of their strategy to expand the Hollywoodbets brand’s footprint in the United Kingdom and Ireland. They recently won the gsport award for the 2021 Nielsen Sponsor of the Year for their partnership of the SA women’s provincial soccer league, known as the Hollywoodbets Super League. The Hollywoodbets My Community Programme forms a vital role within the business, with the main goal of investing back into communities within which it operates. With a strong focus towards the growth and educational development of South African youth, they assisted 207 schools through their Back to School campaign and 208 students through their Future is Bright bursary programme. Sports development is another key focus area and this year the Programme assisted 141 development sports teams through donations including sporting kits and equipment. On top of those 890 charitable organisations and 91 SMMEs received various forms of support on their journey to making a difference in their communities. The brand is now excited to have launched the Hollywood Foundation with the aim to bring hope to even more communities. More About the CEO Devin Heffer Meet the CEO
- Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd (IDC) , The IDC has offices in all nine provinces in order to provide niche and innovative funding products that are aimed at enhancing and growing the country’s regional economiesThe Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) was established in 1940 to promote economic growth and industrial development in South Africa and, by extension, the rest of the African continent. The IDC has offices in all nine provinces in order to provide niche and innovative funding products that are aimed at enhancing and growing the country’s regional economies. Under the strong leadership of KZN Regional Manager, Pat Moodley the KwaZulu Natal (KZN) office is flying the colours of the IDC really high. The KZN regional office can always be counted amongst the top performing offices within the IDC and once again secured its position as the second best performing province in the last financial year outside head office. The Corporation’s key sectors in the province include the textile, clothing, and footwear industries which are key drivers of the KZN economy, especially because of the easy access to the Durban port for exports and imports. Other economic sectors supported include agro-processing, chemicals, plastics and medical products; wood and furniture products; automotive and transportation; machinery and equipment; electronics, basic metals, tourism, infrastructure, as well as energy. The KZN regional office is well networked within the province of KwaZulu-Natal. “We have a stakeholder engagement plan and one of our key focus areas is visiting the eight district municipalities every quarter, outside eThekwini Municipality. Our team meets with each of the local economic development managers to build a pipeline of projects so that we can extend our reach to all corners of the province and stimulate investment in the region,” explains Moodley. “With industrialisation comes development, which includes job creation and localisation. An additional element, which we actively focus on is the growth and empowerment of black industrialists, youth and women owned businesses,” he added. During the Covid-19 lockdown, the IDC went through a realignment process to enable the Corporation to better serve its clients. As a result, the Small Business Finance and Regions (SBF) strategic business unit, which houses all regional offices, was established to streamline offerings and better serve the IDC’s diverse clients, especially those outside of Gauteng. The realignment process brought about a key focus on the SME sector and enhancement of turnaround times for clients. To reduce the number of touch points, the regional offices now handle funding proposals up to R20 million from cradle to grave, while transactions over this amount are immediately referred to the relevant business unit at head office for further processing. This process means that the client deals with the relevant person from day one, significantly reducing the turnaround time for applications. The KZN regional office has a strong and committed team that is client orientated, focused, and has an open-door policy. They are there to help all clients and have strong relationships with other funding entities in the province. If a project does not meet the IDC’s mandate, the KZN team goes the extra mile to not only refer them to a more suitable institution but walk the journey with the client to ensure that they land in the correct hands. “Our responsibility as a development finance institution is to assist clients. If we can’t assist in line with our mandate, we will pass clients on to other relevant development finance institutes with whom we have very good relationships,” explained Moodley. A recent beneficiary of IDC funding is ARTsolar, which is South African owned and based in New Germany. The company, one of two local manufacturers specialising in high volume manufacturing of solar panels, has now embarked on a massive upgrade of its production facility. The IDC’s investment has resulted in significant employment opportunities created by the Durban- based company and extends within other companies in the value chain. Significantly, the KZN regional office played a pivotal role in assisting the province recover from the unrest experienced in July 2021 and the floods in April 2022. “In response to the unrest and the floods the KZN team worked around the clock to ensure that as many businesses were swiftly put back online and were able to operate again. We really didn’t close the door on anyone and we tried to take away some of the pain and devastation that both businesses and the community were experiencing,” explained Moodley. The IDC’s post-unrest and flood relief interventions not only provided funding but assisted in ‘building business back better’. “Where necessary, old equipment was replaced, which has resulted in greater efficiencies and more globally competitive operations. In some cases, this intervention allowed not only jobs to be preserved, but more jobs to be created,” explained Moodley. In response to the hardships that were being faced, the IDC further assisted eligible businesses by extending funds at zero percent interest over 12 months which was followed by a very low interest rate thereafter. Grants which allowed fixed expenses such as salaries to be paid while rebuilding was in progress also largely assisted government’s efforts in the recovery and stabilising of the KZN’s economy. In addition to the business recovery efforts, the IDC also has a very strong corporate social responsibility programme which also played a huge role in assisting affected communities, especially those in remote and rural areas, to rebuild their lives. Moodley explained, “We have a long history of working among the communities of KZN. During the unrest and the floods, we made sure that the underprivileged communities affected were given the assistance they needed to ease their plight.” The IDC’s KZN team is committed to working with entrepreneurs and communities alike to grow the province’s economy by providing funding which will enable job creation and improve the lives of its citizens.PAT MOODLEY has been in the financial sector for over 30 years, where the desire to promote sustainable business development and economic growth has shaped his career. After completing his initial university degree, Moodley obtained a position in the banking sector focusing on financing of SMMEs and corporates. Moodley says, "Working for IDC is not only a job, but it is also a calling." He explained that he is driven by the desire to grow viable and sustainable businesses that have social impact; especially businesses that create jobs to counter the high rate of unemployment. Moodley says that he is motivated daily by the fact that once he reaches retirement age, he will be able to reflect on his achievements and the difference that he has contributed to enhance the business sector in KZN under his leadership at the IDC. "I am inspired by making a difference. When you finance businesses and can see the growth in these entities, it gives a great sense of accomplishment. He says, "Working at the IDC is not a standard eight to five job."Moodley describes himself as being very people oriented and has an open-door policy to both his employees and clients to discuss any issue relating to business and the work they do. "Dealing with people is not always easy and it takes exceptional skills, especially where finances are involved. Part of my role is educating my team on how to manage client's expectations." The IDC KZN team is very passionate about development and constantly work to empower sustainable business entities. "We are customer focused and ensure that we provide a high level of service, our clients are extremely important as they are the foundation for the growth of our economy. Servicing clients may include identifying gaps in their business model that require attention or providing mentorship to assist their businesses to grow." The KwaZulu-Natal regional office's success has also grown out of the relationships it has forged with the public and private sectors, other development finance institutions, as well as commercial banks. In addition, Moodley says that although he and his team need to be very empathetic, they also need to be firm on the occasions that the IDC is unable to assist with applications for funding. He added that if a project is not sustainable there are valid reasons, and these are explained to the client in detail. We finance businesses that are sustainable and economically viable." Moodley's advice to anyone entering the finance industry is that they would need to have integrity and honesty. Although Moodley is very comfortable with his current achievements, he intends to ensure that the IDC continues to have an impact on the lives of people who require support. He believes that the KwaZulu-Natal province has many opportunities and it's vital to tap into these. Moodley is married with one son.
