Kenako Marketing, a marketing agency renowned for telling brand stories with finesse, successfully hosted a dynamic Business Breakfast event on September 28th at the Durban ICC. The event, themed “Growing Brands Through Strategic Events and Marketing”, marked a pivotal moment for Kenako Marketing as they embarked on a new phase of expansion, diversifying their product offering and services.


The event featured an impressive line-up of industry leaders as keynote speakers, each providing invaluable insights into the realms of branding, events management, and the media industry. Highlights of the day included:

  1. Insights to Events by Lindiwe Rakharebe (Durban ICC CEO): Lindiwe shared her wealth of knowledge and experiences in the events industry, providing key insights into the world of event planning and execution.

  2. Insights on Brand Building and Strategic Events by Brian Mpono (Oceans Umhlanga Development CEO): Brian delved into the nuances of brand building and strategic event management, drawing from his extensive experience in the field.

  3. The Power of Brand Building by Nomfundo Mcoyi (Icebolethu Group CEO): Nomfundo delivered a powerful testimony, showcasing how Kenako Marketing transformed her funeral parlour into a lifestyle brand, satisfied customers developed a term "siyolala eCebolethu"

  4. Keynote Address by Carol Bouwer: Carol Bouwer, a renowned figure in events management, brand building, and the media industry, captivated the audience with her journey and insights, which spanned the following key areas:

  • Brand Building: Carol shared her journey of founding and growing the Imbokodo Awards, shedding light on the strategies that fuelled its success and providing practical insights into building enduring brands.

  • Events Management: Lessons from managing a diverse range of events, including international pageants like Miss World, were discussed, offering a deep dive into the intricacies of planning and executing global events.

  • Media Industry: Carol emphasized the evolving landscape of the media industry and the pivotal role of storytelling in captivating audience attention.

  • Industry Observations: Drawing from over two decades of experience, Carol provided a unique perspective on the changes, trends, and challenges witnessed in the industries of brand building, events management, and media.

The event also featured a thought-provoking panel discussion:

  • Pearl Sokhulu (Vuma FM MD) discussed the importance of choosing the right medium for marketing campaigns.

  • Zamani Ndimande (Jayzee Records CEO) explored the process of selecting the right artists for events or brand endorsements.

  • Ntando Kubheka (Sugar Insure CEO) shared valuable insights into strategic brand building.

Grant Adlam from KwaZulu Natal Top Business offered words of support, underlining the significance of such events in nurturing local business growth and innovation. Kenako Marketing's CEO and founder, Nkosenhle, shared his inspiring journey from being a qualified geologist to pursuing his entrepreneurial passion by founding the company in 2010, aptly named 'Kenako,' which means "it is time" in Sesotho. Nkosenhle operates Kenako Marketing alongside his wife, Gugu Hlophe, a qualified audiologist and Brand Strategist. He highlighted the company's mission to tell brand stories better.

The business breakfast was well-attended by a mix of marketing professionals, business owners, and entrepreneurs. Participants had the opportunity to network with each other and learn from some of the leading experts in the industry. “We were delighted with the turnout and the positive feedback we received from our attendees,” said Hlophe. “We believe that this event was a valuable opportunity for businesses to learn how to grow their brands through strategic events and marketing.”
